Newmarket Afterschools

The children receive a home cooked nutritious dinner along with one to one help and supervision with their homework

Established in 2005, Newmarket Afterschools is this year celebrating its tenth year in operation. It provides a top quality wrap around service to primary school children who are collected from school daily by bus with a passenger assistant, receive a home cooked nutritious dinner along with one to one help and supervision with their homework. For many of the children the extra support with homework provided by the Afterschools has proved hugely beneficial.

The facility was initially established in response to a recognised need for Afterschool care in local rural areas as there was no other service like this locally. This service is essential for parents in rural areas who otherwise would be excluded from participation in work or training due to a lack of childcare. Parents are assured that their children are cared for in a safe environment, which allows them the opportunity to take up employment or partake in education and training courses.

The service admisters the National Community Childcare Subvention Programme and operates on a tiered pricing policy where subsidies are offered to families in receipt of a social welfare payment or who hold a medical card ensuring that all families have the opportunity to access the service regardless of their financial circumstances.

Literacy support is also available in the afterschools on Tuesdays where children who require additional support in literacy and numbers are able to access this support locally in our facility with qualified teachers.

Extra camps are run in school holidays

The facility also acts as a social outlet for children especially during the Easter, Summer and Halloween camps, which are held by the Afterschools annually. Arts and Crafts, Baking, Nature Trails, Pitch and Putt are but few of the activities that the children take part in. Below is a sample of the different variety of camps which take place here throughout the year.

Our Eggtastic Easter Camp takes places during the two weeks of the Easter holidays. The camp is fun filled with activities such as Arts and Crafts, Baking, Potting Plants, indoor and outdoor games, Fancy Dress Disco and lot more fun filled activities.

Little Chefs and Gardeners Summer Camp is a fun filled week of baking, arts and crafts, potting plants and lots of outdoor games.

Nature Detectives is another one of our summer camps. If you love outdoors this camp is for you! Go pond dipping, hunt for beetles, bugs and butterflies, search for woodland creepy crawlies and take part in tracking games all in the outdoors.

Pitch & Putt is our all new summer camp. If you are in 5th or 6th class why not try our fun filled Pitch & Putt Camp. Learn techniques, the rules of the game and take part in a mini tournament at the end of the camp.

Laugh and Learn runs for a week during the summer. Its gives children an opportunity to come and to develop their reading and writing skills along with taking part in some fun filled activities such as sports, arts and crafts and baking.

Our Halloween Camp runs during the October mid-term break each year. Children can come and take part in costume making, a spooky Halloween Hunt, storytelling, cookery workshops and many more spooky filled games and activities.
